Project 45 was Kei's nickname as a junior. He was sponsored by a Sony founder and sent to the Bolletteri academy with the goal of becoming the highest-ranked Japanese tennis player ever, thus the "45". Kei has far exceeded that goal reaching as high as number 4 in the world, and making the US Open finals.
